Today I gathered with hundreds of NC folks to stand in solidarity against the KKK who had planned to rally in support of Trump's election.
I stood with communities of color, the LGBTQ community, the Jewish community, the Muslim community, the immigrant community, the disabled community and all oppressed people. I listened. I learned. And key word.. I committed. As one of the speakers said in their speech, "If you choose to be neutral you choose the side of the oppressor."
Before the rally I was interviewed by a local CBS affiliate. The interviewer asked me why I was there and why the message on my sign was important. I said now more than ever we need to remember that we are more alike than not. That we can stand on the bridges we build together and find common ground. I said love can't be small and it can't conquer hate unless it's fierce and ready to stand up and speak out. Love without action isn't enough and the time for waiting on the sidelines is over. Marginalized communities need us in the game... Body, Mind & Soul.
One of the speakers offered the crowd a prayer often spoken in his Jewish faith.
"Thanks for this opportunity to fix the world."
I'm on my knees in gratitude. Here we go. 💪🏻💪🏼💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿👫👭👬🏳️🌈 ☮️✝️☪️✡️🔯☯️🕉#love#lovetrumpshate #thisisournc #raleigh #equality #speakup #justice#lovewithaction #solidarity #nodapl #wearetheoneswehavebeenwaitingfor
